កម្មវិធីដំឡើងពុម្ពអក្សរខ្មែរសម្រាប់ទូរស័ព្ទ និងកុំព្យូទ័របន្ទះរបស់ Samsung

ទូរស័ព្ទ និងកុំព្យូទ័របន្ទះរបស់ក្រុមហ៊ុន Samsung មួយចំនួនមានលក្ខណៈ FlipFont ដែលអនុញ្ញាតឲ្យយើងបន្ថែមពុម្ពអក្សរដោយពុំចាំបាច់រូត (root)។ ដូច្នោះហើយលោកអ្នកអាចទាញយកកម្មវិធីនេះ ទៅដំឡើងដើម្បីអានព័ត៌មានភាសាខ្មែរ សរសេរសារជាខ្មែរ។

កម្មវិធីនេះបានសាកល្បងនៅលើ Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, Galaxy 7.0 Plus និង Galaxy Tab 10.1។

ទាញយក

ក្រោយពេលទាញយករួច ចម្លងយកទៅដាក់ក្នុងទូរស័ព្ទ ឬ SDCard។ ហើយធ្វើការដំឡើងធម្មតា។ ប៉ុន្តែត្រូវចូលទៅ Setting->Application រើសយក unknown sources ជាមុនសិន។

របៀបប្រើ៖

១-លោកអ្នកត្រូវមានទូរស័ព្ទ ឬកុំព្យូទ័របន្ទះរបស់ Samsung ដែលដំឡើងប្រព័ន្ធប្រតិបត្តិការ Android 3.1 ឡើងទៅ។
២-ចូលទៅ Settings->Display->Font style។
៣-រើសពុម្ពអក្សរ “Khmer”។
៤-បិទម៉ាស៊ីន រួចបើកឡើងវិញ។
៥-សាកល្បងចូលទៅគេហទំព័រនេះ http://khnews.info/testing.html
៦-ដើម្បីសរសេរខ្មែរបាន លោកអ្នកអាចស្វែងរកក្ដារចុចនៅលើ Android Market ដែលមាន Phum Keyboard ឬ MultiLing Keyboard។

កំណត់ចំណាំ៖

អក្សរខ្មែរបង្ហាញត្រឹមត្រូវតែនៅក្នុងកម្មវិធីរុករក (web browser) នៅលើ Android ពីកំណែ 3.1 ដល់ 4.03។

ZTE isn’t exactly a household name in North America, but the company is looking to make a splash with its new 7-inch T98 Android Honeycomb tablet.

What’s so special about the ZTE T98? It’s sporting a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, making it the first non-reference tablet spotted in the wild running a Kal-El chip. To be specific, it ‘s a 1.5GHz version, though it’s been underclocked to 1.3GHz in the interest of prolonging battery life. That slight reduction is necessitated by a diminutive 4000mAh battery — more than 1000mAh less than the dual-core toting (and similarly sized) BlackBerry PlayBook.

Apart from a kick-butt processor and less-than-impressive battery, the T98 offers pretty standard tablet hardware fare. There’s 1GB of RAM onboard along with 16GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi b/g/n support, 2MP front and 5MP rear-facing cameras, and a 3G modem. It’s not quite Galaxy Tab 10.1 thin at 11.5mm, though it does best the PlayBook by about half a millimeter.

Q: What inspired you to create the Hanuman font?
It comes from my inspiration to have high quality Khmer fonts for both computers and mobile devices. My Khmer language is complex, and the typeface is rich. So I thought the new font technology we have today can help people to use the Khmer language on their computers and devices, and can save Khmer culture in digital age. Windows ships with a Khmer font, but it is small and hard to read. However, Mac OS X and the iPhone don’t ship with a Khmer font yet, and these products are getting usage in the Cambodian market.

Nokia N900 is Linux base phone, so it is easy to use Linux command for copying font. But before use Linux command, we need gain root, and we need to install application name Rootsh from here: http://maemo.org/downloads/Maemo5/system/

Then,

Connect telephone to computer, seclect Mass Storage Mode (see picture)
Copy fonts (.ttf) from PC to Nokia N900. For Khmer I have created new font for Google Font API directly with the size is compatible with small screen, can download here: http://code.google.com/webfonts/family?family=Hanuman&subset=khmer#download
Disconnect data cable from PC & N900, and open X Terminal in N900 menu (see picture)
From X Terminal, type:

-# sudo gainroot (This step is important, if the Rootsh application was installed correctly, after type this command, it should display string “Root shell enabled”, if not, we can turn to google.com to search for reason.

-$ mv ~/MyDocs/*.ttf /usr/share/fonts
For Khmer language, Nokia N900 has shipped one Khmer font name DaunPenh similar to Microsoft Windows Vista and 7. This font is very small, so it is very difficult read Khmer. We also can use Linux command to delete this font. From X Terminal, type:

-$ rm /usr/share/fonts/daunpenh.ttf
Restart machine.

លោក ផៃចៈយ៉ុន ចាន់តៈខេត មានប្រសាសន៍ថា ការបោះជំរំពីថ្ងៃទី១៩ ដល់ថ្ងៃទី២១ ខែធ្នូ ឆ្នាំ២០១០ គឺក្នុងគោលបំណងជំរុញការអប់រំអំពីភាសា និងអារ្យធម៌ខ្មែរ ដល់សិស្សសាលា ដើម្បីភាពសុខសាន្តរវាងប្រជាជាតិជិតខាងទាំងពីរ ៖ "យើង បាននាំសិស្សយើងមករៀនអារ្យធម៌ខ្មែរ អក្សរខ្មែរ បានយើងធ្វើការរកស៊ីខាងខ្មែរ និងថៃ ទាក់ទងគ្នាឱ្យល្អជុំគ្នា។ រួមទាំងអស់ ៤០០ជាង។ កូនសិស្ស ៣៥០នាក់ គ្រូ ៦០នាក់។ មកពី ២៤សាលា និង ៣ខេត្ត គឺខេត្តស៊ីសាកេត សុរិន្ទ និងប៊ុរីរ៉័ម ខេត្តដែលជាប់នឹងបងប្អូនយើងខាងណេះ។ ព្រំដែនជាប់គ្នា"។

ប្រធានមជ្ឈមណ្ឌលភាសា និងវប្បធម៌ខ្មែរ លោក ប្រៈដែង ប៊ុនរឿង គុជៈម៉ា បញ្ជាក់ថា ការបោះជំរំសិក្សានេះ គេឱ្យឈ្មោះថា "ជំរំអារ្យធម៌ខ្មែរ"។ លោក ប៊ុនរឿង ថ្លែងបន្តថា "ជំរំអារ្យធម៌ខ្មែរ" នោះ គេបែងចែកចំនួន ១៥ជំរំតូចៗ ដើម្បីបង្រៀនភាសាខ្មែរទៅតាមប្រធានបទផ្សេងៗ គ្នា ៖ "ការរៀន សូត្រដែលយើងរៀបចំនោះ គឺមាន ១៥កន្លែង ហើយទាក់ទងរឿងភាសាខ្មែរទាំងអស់ ដូចជាថា ជំរំទីមួយ ទាក់ទងរាងកាយ ដូចជាថាក្នុងរាងកាយមានអីខ្លះ? មានដៃ ជើង មានអីទាំងអស់នោះឱ្យសិស្សបានដឹង"។

លោក ប៊ុនរឿង គុជៈម៉ា មានប្រសាសន៍ទៀតថា នៅក្នុងការបង្រៀនភាសាខ្មែរនេះ គឺបានចាប់ផ្តើមបង្រៀនពីពាក្យសំខាន់ៗ ដែលត្រូវប្រើប្រាស់ប្រចាំថ្ងៃមួយចំនួន ទាំងនៅក្នុងរង្វង់គ្រួសារ និងសហគមន៍ ជាពិសេសពាក្យសំគាល់សមាជិកគ្រួសារ។ លោក ប៊ុនរឿន លើកពន្យល់បន្ថែម ៖ "ទី ២ ទាក់ទងនឹងគ្រួសារ ម៉ែឪ មីងមា បងប្អូន ចាស់ទុំ ដូនតាជាដើម។ កូនក្មួយ ម៉ែក្មេក ឪក្មេក ជាដើម ហើយយើងមានការអធិប្បាយពាក្យនិមួយៗ ឱ្យជ្រះស្រឡះ ឱ្យសិស្សបានដឹងផង។ ឯកសារនោះយើងសរសេរទាំងភាសាថៃ ទាំងភាសាខ្មែរ ហើយវិធីអានជាភាសាថៃផង"។

សិស្សសាលាថ្នាក់ទី១០ មួយរូប មកពីសាលារៀនគោកខ័ណ្ឌ ខេត្តស៊ីសាកេត ឈ្មោះ ភូណៃ វីឡា បញ្ចេញមតិរបស់ខ្លួនថា ការរៀនអក្សរខ្មែរនេះ ប្អូនបានចេះដឹងអំពីភាសា អក្សរ និងអារ្យធម៌ខ្មែរ ព្រមទាំងសិល្បៈ ដូចមាននៅប្រាសាទតាមាន់ជាដើម ៖ "ក្នុងអប់រំអារ្យធម៌ ភាសាខ្មែរ ខ្ញុំចេះសរសេរអក្សរខ្មែរបានដូចជា ភ្នែក មាត់ សក់ ហើយភាសា ដូចជា ម៉ែ ម្ដាយ ឪពុក បងប្រុស បងស្រី ប្តី ប្រពន្ធ។ មិនសូវយ៉ាប់ទេបាទ"។

លោក ប៊ុនរឿង គុជម៉ា ថ្លែងថា ការបង្រៀនអក្ខរកម្មនៅក្នុងការបោះជំរំឈ្មោះ "អារ្យធម៌ខ្មែរ" នេះ មានទាំងគ្រូទៅពីស្រុកខ្មែរផង និងគ្រូនៅក្នុងខេត្តសុរិន្ទផង។

នាយករងសាលាគរុកោសល្យ និងវិក្រិតការខេត្តសៀមរាបមួយរូប ដែលត្រូវបានអញ្ជើញឱ្យទៅចូលរួមបង្រៀនអក្សរខ្មែរ នៅក្នុងការបោះជំរំសិក្សានោះដែរ លោក អន ឈុត បានលើកឡើងថា ទាំងគ្រូ និងសិស្សមានឆន្ទៈចង់ចេះអក្សរខ្មែរ ៖ "ទាំងគ្រូ និងសិស្ស ដែលគាត់អញ្ជើញមកចូលរួមហ្នឹង គឺមានការឆាប់ទទួលបាននូវចំណេះដឹង ដែលយើងផ្ដល់ទៅឱ្យគាត់ ទាំងការនិយាយ ទាំងការសរសេរ។ ក៏ប៉ុន្តែ ការសរសេរនៅមិនទាន់បានស៊ីជម្រៅប៉ុន្មានទេ"។

US frees unused airwaves for 'super wi-fi' technology

The US broadcasting regulator has announced it will make unused television airwaves available for new "super wi-fi" technology.

In a statement, the Federal Communications Commission described the spectrum between television channels as "prime real estate" for mobile devices.

It hopes the move will turn swathes of the country into giant wi-fi hot spots.

Officials also said it would encourage innovation and job growth and make the US more competitive globally.

"It will enhance our economy and strengthen our global competitiveness, lead to billions of dollars in private investment and to valuable new products and services - some we can imagine, and many we can't," Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Julius Genachowski said in a statement after the commission's unanimous vote.

'Smart city' applications
The FCC said the move marked the first time in more than two decades a large band of spectrum had been opened. The airwaves became vacant last year when the US moved to an all-digital television broadcast system.

Technology firms are eager to begin using the airwaves, in part because signals in that spectrum can travel several miles, penetrate walls and allow large transfers of data.

The move came after several successful pilot programmes across the US, Mr Genachowski said.

Wilmington, in the state of North Carolina, for example, has experimented with "smart city" applications to manage traffic and water quality.

Some broadcasters fear the move will interfere with their operations, including wireless microphones used to report news.

Then turn Uniscribe value date to 0, and restart for reading webiste.

uspce.dll for complex script rendering is not compatible with Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5 yet, so when we put Uniscribe value date: 0, Khmer script rendering is good, but we can't see letter on address bar. So we need to turn off Uniscribe when we need to type new website address.

To make Khmer Unicode work on Windows Mobile 6.0, after install font into windows folder of phone. You need to download uniscribe file (uspce.dll) for paste in the same folder windows.

What font can be used in Windows Mobile 6.0? I recommend my font for Windows XP SP2, name: KhmerOSsys.ttf, can be found at www.khmerworld.info or www.veticar.com.

Where is uspce.dll? Microsoft have compiled this file for complex script rendering some years ago, but most of mobile phone companies don't shipped at their products yet. If you have problem about finding, please send email to me: dnhhng@yahoo.com

Mr. Chum Praseth, from nokorsoft.com is creating installing package, I am asking him to include uspce.dll for download too.

The last step: add registry for Khmer Unicode font in Windows Mobile.
- Run regedit,

- Click Nm value to modify value data from Tahoma to Khmer Unicode font, example: Khmer OS System
- Re-start machine.

Recall that xpPhone that we've mentioned before? Well, there's an estimated price range on it now.

Whenever it releases (which is still a mystery), it'll retail for somewhere between $400 and $650, according to reports from TechTree and Hot Hardware. While that price may sound astronomical when you think of the type of laptop that you could buy with that, it's not that bad considering $400 to $650 is the average price for a modern unsubsidized smartphone.

Perhaps even more interesting than the price, though equally unverified, is that the xpPhone will be able to run Windows 7. Given that the xpPhone's hardware can run Windows XP, fitting Windows 7 on it shouldn't be too far of a leap – other than the device's namesake, of course.

I am just successful to merge AAT feature of Apple and OpenType features of Adobe and Microsoft to one font file, so in the near future, my Khmer OS fonts can be used in both OS, Windows and Mac OS. World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has released new version of report about CSS3 show how the font resource load dynamically, that can help user agents to read all contents on WebPages without installing font on their computers.

For English, French, Chinese and many other languages have large speakers; they can recognize the benefit from this method that can keep original layout of contents for user agent to read the webpage. But for the language of small group, there are not in operating system of computer, this report is quite meaningful, an example, for Khmer language in Cambodia.

Embedded OpenType, don’t need to install fonts

Many years ago, webmasters in Cambodia were familiar with the term of “TrueDoc” from Bitstream and Embedded OpenType (EOT) from Microsoft, which can help the user agents, read text on website via loading font from server, without font installation in computer, but it doesn’t work with prominent open source web browser as Mozilla Firefox. Especially, EOT fonts work with Microsoft Internet Explorer only.

Now there is a lot of big website in Khmer language from Cambodia and abroad use EOT font, such as http://www.rfa.org/khmer of Radio Free Asia, http://khmer.radioaustralia.net.au/ of ABC Radio Australia, http://www.rfi.fr/ of Radio French International, http://khmer.ka-set.info/ of Ka-set newspaper, etc…

Also a well-known and old website http://www.everyday.com.kh/ which is interested in teenagers in Cambodia, has also provide Khmer email, use EOT based on legacy font which was created in 1990s. It is favorable for user agents who have MS Internet Explorer, but it still creates difficulties for Firefox web browser’s readers.

Web fonts for Firefox and Safari

According to W3C’s recent report post on their website in June 18, 2009, new term was used and described similar to TrueDoc and Embedded OpenType before, is Web fonts and the way to make them load dynamically from server to user agent’s computer, just upload the font server and add CSS code to webpage. Compare to Embedded OpenType from Microsoft, it is easier, because we don’t need any special tool to convert the font for server.
The fonts for upload to server still keep the original extension, example font.ttf, font.oft or font.svg, etc…

To use a downloadable font call Khmer OS:

The Fight for the Future of Cloud Computing

While Google and Microsoft have each developed very different business models and attitudes toward consumers and the enterprise, both companies are preparing to clash when it comes to how the world’s cloud computing infrastructure develops in the next 10 years. While Google and Microsoft might fight for dominance in the cloud, it’s not clear which company will win or if a third company might succeed.

ORLANDO, Fla. – When it comes to building out cloud computing infrastructures in the next two years, two of the world’s largest and most formidable IT companies – Google and Microsoft – are preparing to pour money and resources into developing significantly different models of how this type of computing should look and feel.

While it’s not surprising that Google and Microsoft are preparing to clash in other fields besides search and advertising, the two companies’ attitudes toward the cloud and the different approaches were dissected at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo here.

At its most basic, cloud computing offers customers the ability to have their applications supported by third-party vendors and those applications are then delivered to the user through the Internet. Enterprises, such as Amazon, Google and Microsoft, can also develop their own cloud computing infrastructures for their internal applications.

While the cloud is still a somewhat undefined area, the types of technology that Google and Microsoft are developing could shift the way businesses, and even consumers, use the cloud for their needs. Part of this clash for the future of the cloud comes from the different business models that Google and Microsoft developed. While Microsoft has worked mainly in the enterprise and built its reputation on its operating systems and offerings such as the Office suite, Google has been more consumer focused and has relied on advertising revenue to bolster its search capabilities.

In the case of Microsoft, David Smith, a Gartner Fellow, believes that Microsoft is looking to become a force in both the internal cloud, which businesses will build to support their own applications and computing resources, and the external cloud, which are developed by third-party service providers such as AT&T.

“With Microsoft, the goal is to support both in a sort of hybrid model that takes advantage of both models,” said Smith. “Virtually all Microsoft software until recently, especially for enterprises, has been either client-based or on-premise software. However, they are gradually moving much of that to a cloud offering.”

The evidence of that shift in strategy, Smith said, is a number of new products Microsoft has brought into the market or will bring in the coming years. These include Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, Live Mesh and platforms such as “Oslo” and “Titan.”

For Google, the opposite is true. Most of the search giant’s applications products are offsite on the server level. At the same time, more and more applications are being developed and deployed within Web browsers, which appears to have been one of the motivations behind Google’s launch of Chrome earlier this year.

“The reason for Chrome is to stimulate development in this space, to speed up Java script, to speed up off-line support and there are some reasons that are harder to understand but they are there and they have to do with the control of advertising,” said Smith.

At the same time, Tom Austin, also a Gartner Fellow, sees Google developing its own platforms for the cloud, such as Google App Engine, which allows for the building and hosting of applications on Google Web servers. In addition, Google has turned to IBM to help it develop technology, especially within the cloud, that will give those applications more of an enterprise edge.

In the march toward the cloud, Google and Microsoft are being driven by five technologies, according to Gartner. These are SAAS (software as a service), open source, Web 2.0, consumerization and “global class,” which is a new way to deliver computing services.

What might leave some industry observers frustrated is that the battle between Microsoft and Google might not leave a clear winner, according to Gartner. Google and Microsoft might wind up splitting this new space between them with each playing to their strengths. At the same time, a third company might hold the key toward developing the cloud. Smith and Austin reminded the audiences that Yahoo remains a factor in all these decisions, and Smith believes that a deal for Microsoft to buy Yahoo will still happen.

As for IT managers, Smith and Austin urged them to begin evaluating and testing Web-based applications now as these applications are still being developed.

According to Quark, the QuarkXPress product team spent a lot of time with designers to determine how they work and figure out what to change in QuarkXPress 8 to help them.

“We really sat down to change QuarkXPress and change the number of mouse clicks it takes to get things done,” Tim Banister, General Manager of Desktop Technology for Quark, told Macworld. “Really, we went back to the fundamentals.”

Part of what Quark did to make things more intuitive is to incorporate smart behavior in its tools. This lets users access the tool they need without having to switch back and forth between them all the time.

New Bézier pen tools let users draw illustrations directly in QuarkXPress, while buttons for instant access to master pages and exporting to PDF, EPS, SWF, and HTML, plus new split-view buttons, enhanced contextual menus, and customizable active pasteboards highlight workspace enhancements aimed at making the a designer's job easier.

You can now drag text or pictures into QuarkXPress from Adobe Bridge, Apple's iPhoto, or any program that supports drag and drop. You can also drag content from QuarkXPress to Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Word, and other software for direct editing.

Quark also focused on typographic control in the new version. According to the company, QuarkXPress 8 is the first page-layout program to offer hanging characters with paragraph-by-paragraph control.

Because Quark realizes that designers need the ability to use content in different forms and locations, QuarkXPress 8 lets users simultaneously design for print, Web, and Flash.

Among the other improvements users will find in the new version are native Illustrator file import, WYSIWYG font rendering, advanced guide management, Item Styles to control formatting for multiple items, support for importing PDF version 1.7 and earlier, and Ghent PDF Workgroup (GWG)-based output styles and GWG-based job jackets support.

Quark did not announce pricing, but said users who purchase or upgrade to QuarkXPress 7 between May 29, 2008 and August 1, 2008 are eligible to upgrade to QuarkXPress 8 for free. Also, any users who purchased upgrades to or full versions of QuarkXPress 7 between May 1, 2008, and May 29, 2008 are also be eligible for a free upgrade to QuarkXPress 8.

Type design is the art of designing typefaces. Although the technology of printing text using movable type was invented in China, and despite the esteem which calligraphy held in that civilization, the vast number of Chinese characters meant that few distinctive, complete fonts could be afforded by Chinese printers. The applied art of designing pieces of type thus became primarily a Western practice whose market increased with the coming of mass advertisement and steam-powered printing in the nineteenth century. With the advent of desktop publishing (and internet web pages, which use different technologies), the marketplace has demanded ever more varied typefaces merely for the purposes of variety to get the customers' attention. Finally, the ease of this new technology has resulted in the hobby or money-saving option of amateur type design.
